⸻
Installation
Application is straightforward:
Tiles can be installed using standard mortar onto brick/block walls (provided the surface is reasonably flat).
For a more refined finish, white S1 tile adhesive can be used on tile backer board or cement board.
Due to the natural irregular shape, tiles should be fitted as closely as possible. Small gaps are inevitable and form part of the intended aesthetic, with shadow lines enhancing the depth and raw character of the wall.
Gaps can be:
• Left visible (recommended for the most natural look)
• Reduced using light reshaping with an angle grinder and diamond blade
• Filled using smaller tile pieces or chippings
📌 See listing video for a typical installation example.
⸻
Recommended Finish
For the most natural, high-end result:
• Leave joints ungrouted to allow shadowing between stones
• Apply a thin skim of white tile adhesive to the substrate first
→ This creates a clean, light background that enhances the final appearance
(See image 20 for an example)
⸻
Corners
Corners can be formed using an alternating overlap pattern:
• Row 1: front-facing tile overlaps side tile
• Row 2: side tile overlaps front tile
This can also be applied in a more randomised pattern for a natural finish.
⸻
Maintenance
For exterior use in the UK, sealing limestone with a breathable impregnating sealer such as Lithofin Stain-Stop MN is recommended due to its naturally porous structure. This helps protect against moisture, staining, and weathering while maintaining the stone’s natural appearance.
Sealing is optional and comes down to personal preference. If left unsealed, the stone will weather more naturally and can be cleaned with a pressure washer every 6–12 months.
For interior use, sealing is only recommended in high-traffic areas or where the stone may be exposed to moisture or grease (e.g. kitchens and bathrooms).
⸻
Why Designers Choose This Stone
This style of hand-shaped limestone is widely used in luxury villas, boutique hotels, and high-end resorts in destinations such as Bali, Ibiza, and Tulum.
It delivers a timeless, premium architectural finish that stands out from standard cladding materials.
